On 17–18 March 2027, the Interreg Wildfire CE project invites researchers to a two-day scientific conference at TU Dresden. The event, building upon the success of the Fire in Central European Ecosystems Conference 2025, will bring together experts from across Central and Northern Europe to exchange knowledge on current and emerging wildfire challenges from interdisciplinary scientific perspectives. The symposium will be organised around three thematic tracks reflecting the breadth of contemporary wildfire research.
These include:
Wildfire Science, Fire Behaviour, and Predictive Modelling, focusing fire weather, fuel dynamics, wildfire monitoring and modelling, and climate-driven changes in fire regimes.
Wildfire impacts on ecosystems, landscapes, biodiversity, and ecosystem services, as well as post-fire recovery, disturbance dynamics, monitoring, silviculture, and future landscape management.
Society, Risk Governance, and Adaptation, examining risk perception, communication, land-use change, governance structures, policy frameworks, adaptation planning, and cross-border cooperation.
In addition to these thematic tracks, the conference will highlight several cross-cutting themes that span all areas of wildfire research, including climate change, resilience, adaptation, interdisciplinary integration, and decision-support systems. Particular emphasis will be placed on understanding how these themes influence wildfire risk across physical, ecological, and societal systems, and how integrated approaches can support more effective risk reduction and management.
Together, these tracks and cross-cutting themes reflect the interdisciplinary nature of wildfire science and its growing relevance under changing climatic and socio-economic conditions. The symposium aims to foster dialogue across disciplines, linking physical science, ecological understanding, and societal perspectives to support integrated approaches to wildfire risk and resilience.
Participants are invited to submit abstracts for oral and poster presentations under one of the three thematic tracks above. Contributions from other regions are warmly welcomed to provide comparative and international perspectives.
